Finding the Best Actor in the World
A Case Study on casting Joachim Trier's Oscar-nominated The Worst Person in the World
How can a film with (as yet) unknown actors in the lead role(s) find success and become a true discovery? Is it all about faith in the director; is it the audience’s interest in new talent/new faces; is it the art of a casting director to combine director and talent; or is it all of the above? And what can a producer do to successfully steer the process?
Norwegian casting director Yngvill Kolset Haga and producer Andrea Berentsen-Ottmar (Oslo Picture) offer their insights into the casting process and their close collaboration on Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World which was just nominated for two Academy Awards: as Best International Feature Film and for Best Original Screenplay.
Producer Tanja Georgieva (Elemag Pictures, Leipzig) will moderate the case study, which is hosted by Pippa Harrison (Spotlight). Spotlight is a long standing and loyal partner of the European Shooting Stars programme.
