Summary
At his hotel in Algarve, Victor Pratas (50 years old) drinks to the memory of his four departed fellow soldiers, ancient commandos, as he is informed of the death of Joaquim Malarranha, an ex-detective that had become a guitar-player at his Fado House in Lisbon. Joaquim died as he was playing his guitar. At the funeral, Pratas recalls the incidents that led to the death of his companions and how the former detective had engaged in the group's activities.
