What does it sound like when you deep-fry a trumpet as a commentary on Brexit? In an audio-activist intervention that lends a voice to British fishermen, composer and master sampler Matthew Herbert treats a trumpet as if it was a portion of fish and chips. A Symphony of Noise provides insight into his thoughts about how we should hear the world and presents amplified sounds of teeth being pulled out, a pig being born, and a swimmer crossing the English Channel. In a live performance at the legendary Berlin night club Berghain, his controversial and political samples make listerners both grind their teeth and dance along. Herbert wants us to listen to the world afresh, and it's a pretty fantastic experience.
