A film, inspired by Vincas Giedra's novel Fling the stone, David, tells about Lithuania after World War II. About the oppressive occupation regime and the hope of the Lithuanians to become free again. This is the story of one family during the end of organised partizan war. Pliauga's family farm is also home to 18-year-old Untė. During the day, the farm is run by soviet collaborants and partisans appear at night. Father Pliauga takes care of partisans as best he can while Unte works as a liaison for the "forest brothers". One day, after noticing a surge of Soviet forces in the town, the Unte rushes off to report to the partisans who are temporarily based in the nearby forest surrounded by swamps. Men suspect betrayal and realise it is time for them to re-treat.
