Summary

MANIFESTO - featuring Cate Blanchett in 13 different roles - pays homage to the moving tradition and literary beauty of artist manifestos, written throughout the 20th century. Texts from Futurists and Dadaists to Pop Art and Fluxus, and from filmmakers like Lars von Trier and Jim Jarmusch are re-interpreted as performative monologues by Blanchett, who embodies these collages in 13 different roles: as a choreographer, a school teacher, a funeral speaker, a factory worker, a stockbroker, or a homeless man. The film reveals both the performative component and the political significance of these declarations and questions the role of the artist today.
