Annetta lives in a rural Sardinian village at the end of the 1930s. Though she is a beautiful woman, she is a silent, solitary figur, always dressed in black. Annetta is an Accabadora, the custodian of a terrible secret from the past. She spends her days expecting to be called upon once again and each time this happens she gently open her old leather bag which contains a wooden gavel, an old cushion and a broken mirror... That is until one day something unforeseen happens. Her sister makes a dying wish, that Annetta should not pass on the gift of the Accabadora to her young niece. This break wit tradition has consequences for Annetta which will utterly change her destiny, forcing her to discover an intimacy with life where before she knew only death.
