Biography

Chmielewska is a director and screenwriter based in Vienna who studied at the State School of Film and Television – Filmakademie Wien. Her films include 2018’s Heaven’s Meadow which won the First Steps Award in 2018 and Lullaby (2021) which won the prestigious Max Ophüls Preis in 2022. With years of experience in contemporary dance complementing her methods of working with actors she says “My visual language focuses on telling the stories of a longing for something that has been lost while discovering the otherness that lingers within us.”
