"Hunger" won Sydney Film Festival prize
Producers on the Move 2008
Hunger, produced by
Laura
Hastings-Smith and directed by Steve McQueen, won
the top prize at the Sydney Film Festival's inaugural competition, according
to the trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter. As jury president Gillian Armstrong
said,
Hunger was chosen for "its controlled clarity of vision, its extraordinary
detail and bravery, the dedication of its cast and the power and resonance
of its humanity".
Hunger already had won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes
International Film Festival in May.
Laura Hastings-Smith (UK) participated in EFP's PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE programme
in Cannes this year. Together with 20 other selected promising and talented
young producers from all over Europe, she benefited from EFP's promotional
programme which is financially supported by the MEDIA Programme of the European
