EFP - European Film Promotion

Norwegian Film Institute

The Norwegian Film Institute is the national organisation dedicated to the development, support and distribution of Norwegian films. Our main concern is to promote greater understanding, appreciation and access to film culture.

The Institute's primary objectives are

  • to distribute and screen films

  • to promote Norwegian films in Norway and abroad

The Norwegian Film Institute is under the authority of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The Department of International Relations is responsible for the presentation and promotion of Norwegian films abroad, and participates at several international festivals and markets. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is an important partner of the Institute in connection with film weeks and other Norwegian cultural events abroad.

Scandinavian Films, the umbrella organisation of the 5 Nordic Film Institutions, was one of the 10 founding members of EFP. The Norwegian Film Institute became an individual EFP member in 1998.

"Being a part of EFP is something we find very valuable. When we go into new markets, we are more powerful as a group than individually." Stine Oppegaard
