“Producers Lab Toronto provided a strong introduction to a group of well established producers from both sides of the Atlantic. Packed into the heart of the Toronto International Film Festival, the venues and events provided an atmosphere that inspired and motivated the participants in a spirit of international cooperation. We walked away with new insights, new relationships... and a co-production deal!”

Began in 2010, PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO is an initiative organised by EFP in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and the Toronto International Film Festival® (TIFF). It aims to facilitate and increase international co-productions and to strengthen the networking between the participating professionals. The initiative brings together a group of talented, experienced producers from Europe (carefully selected from the PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE initiative) with Canadian producers (and, for the first time in 2013 with producers from Australia and New Zealand) for three days of workshops, seminars, pitching sessions, 1:1 meetings and discussions. The participants have the opportunity to exchange ideas and knowledge and discuss concrete co-production opportunities.
The initiative encourages European
and Canadian producers to partner on film projects with a high artistic,
as well as commercial, value.
In 2013, EFP will again arrange a programme for 10 European and 10 Canadian producers and for the first time for two producers from Australia and two from New Zealand to meet and exchange projects, ideas and knowledge with the aim of increasing the number of concrete co-productions.
EFP brings European producers to Toronto, selected out of the Producers on the Move participants. The Canadian producers are selected by OMDC and TIFF. All participants must have a track record of successful project development and production, experienced in international co-production, and concrete interest in collaborations between Europe and Canada. The objective is to enhance the competitiveness of European films on the Canadian market and the competitiveness of Canadian films in Europe.

The Toronto International Film Festival has always been an important supporter of quality European cinema. EFP has created and nurtured a strong, collaborative relationship with the festival which has enabled the effective promotion of European cinema at this extremely important event.
Since EFP's first association with Toronto in 1997, the number of European films shown has grown from 50 productions to over 135 features from EFP member countries in 2011. Introducing the work of new European directors to enthusiastic Toronto audiences has become a Festival tradition and remains a prime focus of the EFP members promotional mandate.
