Background: Born in 1970, Aleksi Bardy received a master's degree from the film department of the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. Before starting as a producer, he had a career as a screenwriter for feature films and television series, and he also wrote a children's book on sailing. Since starting the production company Helsinki -filmi as part of the Filmiteollisuus Group in 2002, Aleksi has become one of the most active younger generation producers in Finland, participating in the EAVE and ACE training programmes. He released four feature fiction films, one television movie and numerous commercials and music videos and will see the company releasing another two films, including a co-production with Sweden, by the end of 2006. The romantic comedy BEAUTY AND THE BASTARD was one of the biggest domestic releases of 2005 and nominated for eight Jussis - including Best Film and Best Director - winning for Best Music and the Viewers Choice Award. It was the only Finnish film of its release year to be selected to screen at the 2006 Berlinale (in the 14plus section). Aleksi is currently in postproduction on the 3D-animated family adventure EMPEROR'S SECRET by Riina Hyytiä, which will be released this September, and is preparing the shooting of the biopic drama GANES about a young gypsy boy Remu who becomes a Finnish rock'n'roll star popular around Europe in the 1970s. Moreover, he is developing the drama SHE-WOLF, set in Finland of the 1918 civil war, with FROZEN LAND and RESTLESS director Aku Louhimies to shoot in spring 2007.
