Jarkko Hentula

Background:

Jarkko Hentula studied Journalism and Mass Communications, History and International Relations at the University of Tampere before taking the producer course in the Film and Television department at Helsinki's University of Art and Design (UIAH). Among the student productions he handled were Klaus Härö's MARATHON, Hanna Miettinen's THE ROSE OF THE RAILROAD and Joona Tena's THE ESCORT.
Jarkko had already done freelance work for various film and television production companies during his studies and, on graduation, was appointed the production manager at UIAH to supervise the student short film production.
In 1998, he moved to MRP Matila & Röhr Productions to become the company's production manager with responsibility for the development, production and marketing of various feature and documentary films.
Jarkko has been a producer at Talent House, a subsidiary of MRP, since 2000, producing Joona Tena's two three-part series KIVI & KILPI (2000/2003), Jukka-Pekka Siili's Prix Italia-winning three-parter JULIA'S TRUTH (2001), Perttu Leppä's domestic hit PEARLS AND PIGS which was screened at the Berlinale's new 14plus sidebar this year, and Pasi Toiviainen's science documentary film THE VENUS THEORY which had its domestic release in January 2004.
In September 2004 Jarkko left Talent House and started his own production company Juonifilmi, which he owns together with a local distribution company FS Film. FS Film is one of the biggest film and video Distribution companies in Finland and is fully owned by a Scandinavian major, AB Svensk Filmindustri. At the moment Jarkko has several national and international productions in different stages of development.
Hentula was selected as Chairman of the Board for The Central Organisation of Finnish Film Producers in January 2008.
Hentula has produced for Juonifilmi Lauri Törhönen's THE BORDER (2007) and upcoming family drama LAST COWBOY STANDING by Zaida Bergroth and co-produced Swedish features THAT SPECIAL SUMMER and two-part epic ARN THE KNIGHT TEMPLAR.
