Ralph Schwingel
Background:
After studying Psychology and Philosophy in Berlin and Hamburg, Ralph Schwingel began working in the area of television and low-budget film production from 1986. He founded Wüste Filmproduktion with Stefan Schubert in 1989 and has worked as a producer, screenwriter and story editor. In his role as a producer Ralph has concentrated on the areas of project development and international co-productions.
In 1998, they joined forces with the publisher Hejo Emons to launch Wüste Film West in Cologne and collaborated with Thomas Tielsch in 2001 to establish the production company filmtank hamburg for documentaries and non-fiction programmes. Then, last autumn, they became partners with Berlin-based Egoli Tossell Film and timebandits Medien in the new distribution outfit timebandits films.
Wüste Film's policy has always been to discover new talents and establish long-term working relationships, as illustrated by the collaboration with director Fatih Akin in 1993 which culminated this year with the awarding of the Berlinale's Golden Bear to HEAD-ON and the nomination for the Deutscher Filmpreis 2004 . In 2006 they founded WÜSTE FILM OST in Berlin-Brandenburg.
Additional succesfull productions are EMMA'S BLISS by Sven Taddicken and the co-production FLAMEN & CITRONEN with Danish Nimbus Film, a thriller from the time when Denmark was occupied by the Nazis (written and directed by Ole Christian Madsen). Among the projects at Wüste is Sven Taddicken's 13 PACES WITHOUT HEAD, a new version about the mythos of Klaus Störtebeker, and THE MURDER FARM by Bettina Oberli.
