Filmevent launched in Madrid with stars Madrid's Roxy B

Friday night, 11th of April, in Madrid’s cinema Roxy B the film event PICTURE EUROPE! The best of European Cinema was opened in the Roxy B with a Spanish audience and key professionals of the film industry. Director Jan Svěrák, and actor  Jan Budař presented the opening film, the absolute top hit from the Czech Republic, VRATNÉ LAHVE (EMPTIES) personally and expressed their favour for European films, before they joined the After party for the opening. Jan Svěrák: "For me it was a great honour to see EMPTIES opening PICTURE EUROPE!. EMPTIES was quite successful in other countries - what is not common for a European production - and I suppose the audiences in Spain would love it too - as they did it at the opening."

From April 11 - 17, thirteen current box-office hits from the neighbouring countries will be screened at the Cinema Princesa and Roxy B.

Under the banner of “Let’s see what’s happening at the neighbours!” European Film Promotion (EFP) is organising the PICTURE EUROPE! event in cooperation with its member organisations, the cinema partners and with financial support from the MEDIA Programme of the EU. As in the previous year, Volkswagen is the event's main sponsor. After the successful launch of the film event in Munich, the European voyage of discovery continued in Copenhagen in March and will end now in Madrid.
