EFP - European Film Promotion

Polish Film Institute

The Polish Film Institute (PFI) was established in 2005 to help a local film industry to regain its international position by supporting all stages of film production, distribution and promotion.

So far PFI has co-financed more than 500 films by young talents and renowned masters, such as “Katyń” and “Sweet Rush“ by Andrzej Wajda, “Four Nights with Anna” by Jerzy Skolimowski and “Tricks” by Andrzej Jakimowski. It has also supported international co-productions such as “Antichrist” by Lars von Trier, “Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler” by John Kent Harrison and “Nightwatching” by Peter Greenaway. Moreover, during the last three years Polish films received nearly 200 international awards, including: the Academy Award for the Best Animated Short for “Peter and the Wolf” by Suzie Templeton, an Academy Award nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film for “Katyń” by Andrzej Wajda, an Emmy Award in the Children and Youth category for “Magic Tree” by Andrzej Maleszka, the “Silver Leopard” Special Jury Prize, Locarno IFF ’08 for “33 Scenes from Life” by Małgorzata Szumowska, the Grand Prize, Un Certain Regard, Cannes IFF ’08 for "Tulpan” by Siergiej Dvortsevoy, the Alfred Bauer Jury Prize, Berlinale ’09 for “Sweet Rush“ by Andrzej Wajda, and a Special Jury Mention, Karlovy Vary IFF ’09 for “Piggies” by Robert Glinski.

The Polish Film Institute has been an EFP member since February 2006.

"EFP is continuously growing and thus becoming a real mosaic of European languages, filmmaking traditions and cultural identities. Sometimes it’s not easy to find common way, but it’s even more exciting to look for it… This is Europe.” Maciej Karpiński
