British Council

The British Council is the UK’s international cultural relations organisation, operating in over 100 countries worldwide. The film team aims to increase international audiences for new work from the UK and to broker opportunities for UK film communities to engage with their international counterparts and develop long standing relationships.
Where appropriate, it works closely with other organisations across the UK, including the UK Film Council, Skillset, Regional Screen Agencies, film schools and other film related companies. Current activity includes: curating programmes for British Councilevents worldwide and partnering on skills development projects in countries with emerging film industries; working with International film festivals (selecting new British short films to promote at international events; providing travel grants for British Council supported short films; organising London preview feature film screenings for major film festivals; participation in key film markets); operating the portal site www.britfilms.com, which provides a range of information on the British Film Industry, including on-line versions of the British Films Catalogue and the International Film Festivals Directory.
The UK, represented by British Screen
Finance, was one of the 10 Founding Members of EFP and was succeeded in
1998 by the British Council.
"Film makers are increasingly looking beyond their national film organisations and country borders for funds, inspiration, stories, cast and crew – these exchanges should be encouraged at every level possible, as they have an important part to play in the cultural relationships forged between Europe and the rest of the world."
