Overview - Events & Activities 2008

BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
February 7 - 17, 2008

2008 marked the 11th Anniversary of the
SHOOTING STARS initiative during the festival, introducing Europe’s latest wave of acting talent to the press, industry and public in a series of high-profile events. The follow-up programme, “Touring Shooting Stars Film Programme”, presents some of the actors with their films at three selected film festivals in Europe. In 2008, EFP has introduced a total of 203 "new faces" in Berlin since our fledging event 11 years ago.


PICTURE EUROPE! THE BEST OF EUROPEAN CINEMA
February - April, 2008 in three European cities

PICTURE EUROPE! The Best of European Cinema is a project whose aim is to encourage the circulation of European films throughout Europe, and to cultivate new audiences for successful European films which have not had an opportunity for broader distribution outside of their native countries yet. The event presents new European films directly to the cinema audiences in three European cities.


BUENOS AIRES FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE CINE INDEPENDIENTE
April 8 - 20, 2008

EFP presents a promotional platform of activities involving young up-and-coming European directors at this festival.

CANNES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
May 14 - 25, 2008

Through EFP’s initiative,
Producers on the Move, which annually presents selected producers to the international press and industry in Cannes, 177 young creative producers have received support, guidance and increased visibility as of 2000.


KARLOVY VARY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
July 4 - 12, 2008

Presence in Eastern Europe and joint activities with the American trade paper Variety: Variety critics select 10 films from Europe for the
Variety Critics’ Choice, a special sidebar in the festival. EFP has been a partner since 2001 and presents the directors and their films to the local press and festival audiences.


TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
September 4 - 13, 2008

As a platform for European films, and as a gateway for product to the US market, Toronto remains a vital, extremely important festival in the international arena. The members of EFP have a unique opportunity to effectively promote their films in this extremely important event by assisting their directors and using information stands in the Sales and Industry Office. The festival is also a partner for Film Sales Support.


PUSAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
October 2 - 10, 2008

European and Asian films take centre stage – European films win over the Korean public during the festival. Directors and actors from Europe introduce their new films at one of the most important Asian film festivals. The event proved to be one of the most energetic film festivals  in Asia. With the launch of the new Asian Film Market in 2006, Pusan takes on a new and expanded role in the region and for the industry in generla. EFP runs an office for European sales agents at the Asian Film Market. The festival is also a partner for Film Sales Support.

AMERICAN FILM MARKET
November 5 - 12, 2008


Since 1998, EFP runs an umbrella office for European sales agents and producers at this major US market.

INDUSTRY SCREENINGS IN THE USA
June and November 2008


EFP initiated this programme in 2005 with the goal of introducing new European films to North American buyers. Designed to take place two ore three times per year, each session showcase four films from different European countries with commercial potential. World sales agents are on location and actively involved in the marketing strategy and presentation of the films. For 2008, the screenings take place in June (New York) and November (during the AFM).
